Forging Pacific Ties for Stronger Judicial Allies
The Pacific Islands Judicial Officers Association (PIJOA) is a newly established regional initiative, marking an unprecedented and historic milestone in the Pacific region. It represents the first collective effort to bring together judicial officers from across the Pacific Island countries.
Born from a shared vision to empower and connect the region’s judiciaries, PIJOA looks ahead to a future where ethical, competent, and resilient judicial officers serve our people with independence, impartiality, integrity, propriety, equality, and competence and diligence—guided by the rich cultural, traditional, and linguistic heritage that unites our region.
PIJOA is committed to fostering collaboration, promoting judicial excellence, advocating for judicial well-being, and creating meaningful spaces for knowledge sharing, training, and dialogue.
We are equally dedicated to ensuring that the voices and wisdom of our former and current senior judicial officers—those who have long served the region—continue to guide and inspire the next generation of judicial officers.
Together, we are building a regional judicial family—united, inclusive, and future-focused—working hand in hand to uphold the rule of law across the Pacific Islands.
Membership in a judicial association is not only consistent with the Bangalore Principles of Judicial Conduct—it is actively encouraged. Judges, like all citizens, are entitled to freedom of association. By joining PIJOA, judicial officers across the Pacific Islands can collaborate to uphold judicial independence, advance professional development, and protect the conditions of service.
As affirmed in the Commentary to the Bangalore Principles, forming or joining associations of judges is a legitimate and valuable expression of judicial solidarity—one that helps safeguard our collective interests while preserving integrity, impartiality, and independence.
Pacific islands Judicial Officers' Association Inc. (PIJOA) is formally incorporated under Section 7 of the Associations Incorporation Act 1 of 2023 of Papua New guinea.
