PIJOA’s mission is to lead and collaborate with judicial officers across the Pacific Islands to promote strong, independent, and resilient judiciaries by advocating for judicial excellence, judicial well-being, independence, and integrity.
Through training, mentoring, advocacy, and regional partnerships, PIJOA empowers judges to uphold the rule of law, ensure access to justice, and meet the evolving needs of their communities while honouring the region’s cultural diversity.
PIJOA is committed to fostering inclusive, ethical, and fair judicial institutions that uphold the dignity, values, and responsibilities of judicial office, ensuring quality justice for all Pacific Island communities.
a) to advocate and promote strong and independent judiciaries in the region;
b) to promote and foster the development of judiciaries in the region in the context of diverse
cultural, traditional, and linguistic backgrounds unique to the Pacific region;
c) to achieve mutual regional collaboration in judicial work;
d) to promote and advocate for transparent and accountable judicial administration processes
in the region in terms of recruitments, promotions, transfers, disciplinary matters and
termination of judicial officers;
e) to facilitate knowledge sharing, training and research on matters relevant to the region;
f) to empower judiciaries in the region to achieve judicial excellence by organising seminars,
workshops, webinars, conferences and through other means;
g) to acknowledge the services of senior judicial officers in the region after their retirement
and to ensure their continued involvement in sharing their wealth of knowledge and
experience to assist in the achievement of the objectives of the Association; and
h) to conduct, commission and organise any matters that the Executive Council deems fit in
order to achieve the above objectives or to cater to any other situations that may arise in the
region from time to time and in the best interest of the judicial officers in the region.
